Omega3 And Autoimmune Diseases
Autoimmune diseases are when your own immune system
has turned around and begins to destroy your own healthy
cells.
These antibodies are the result of an inappropriate
immune response in which the body's immune system attacks
healthy cells and organs. Certain chemicals called cytokines
are hyper produced, which brings about the autoimmune
condition.
Autoimmune diseases are difficult to diagnose,
especially in the early stages. In some cases, a diagnosis
cannot be made and the patient must continue with many visits
to the doctor.

The disordered immune reactions are a family of more
than 100 chronic, and often disabling, illnesses involving
almost every human organ system, including the nervous system,
gastrointestinal tract, endocrine systems as well as skin and
other connective tissues, eyes, blood and blood
vessels.
Autoinfections are more frequent in women than in
men. It is felt that the estrogens of females may influence the
immune system to predispose some women to the diseases. They
are the fourth leading cause of disability among
women.
The culprit in most autoimmune diseases is a type of
white blood cell known as an “auto-reactive T-cell”. Normal
T-cells are among the most important cells in your immune
system, they are your systems super defence against any foreign
bodies. Each of your billions of T-cells have their own target,
be it hepatitis, aids, polio, the common cold, arthritis, so on
and so on. As soon as the T-cell recognises an enemy virus that
cell multiplies into hundreds of thousands of clones to attack
the invading cell.
Unfortunately some of our T-cells begin to attack
your own healthy cells an inappropriate immune response in
which the body's immune system attacks healthy cells and
organs.
Certain chemicals called cytokines are hyper
produced, which brings about the autoimmune condition and
unless these renegade cells can be disposed of they cause an
autoimmune disorder.
The job of culling these renegade T-cells is
assigned to your thymus gland. T-cells continuously filter
through the thymus, and the ones that have the potential to
destroy your healthy cells are given the order to
self-destruct. This essential safe guard is missing in people
with autoimmune disease.
An important new finding is that Omega-3 fatty acids
may speed up the destruction of the bad T-cells and the disease
can be prevented or the conditions improved by eating a more
natural balance of essential fatty acids.
